Garnets are a group of silicate minerals that have been used since the Bronze Age as gemstones and abrasives. The name “garnet” derives from Gernet meaning “dark red” and the word “Granatus” meaning grain for seed, in reference to its resemblance to a Pomegranate. Garnet species are found in every colour, with reddish shades most common, ranging in tone from a deep, red wine colour to rich plum.

Garnets are the birthstone of January and are said to represent love and friendship as well as light and vitality.
