Lapis Lazuli

£45

A 6mm stone, set in a sterling silver bezel, on a slim sterling silver band.

Lapis lazuli is a deep-blue metamorphic rock used as a semi-precious stone that has been prized since antiquity for its intense color. It has been mined in Afghanistan and exported to the Mediterranean world and South Asia since the Neolithic age. By the end of the Middle Ages, lapis lazuli began to be exported to Europe, where it was ground into powder and made into ultramarine, the finest and most expensive of all blue pigments. Stones range from rich, royal blue to deep navy and are often speckled with sparkly gold pyrite.

Said to represent communication, intuition and inner power, it is also known as the stone of truth and friendship.
